With the "restructuring" of BBC, we have come to the conclusion that "most of us want to have fun golfing". Yet, some of us are "serious with their golf".
Unfortunately, many friendships have been fractured because of those sticklers for the "fine rules of golf", Rule 27-1, Rule 26-1a,b,c, etc. Some friendly matches have been spoiled by shouting matches, insults, and back-stabbing, because of inability to agree on "interpretation" and application of rules.
THUS, in an effort to MAKE GOLF GREAT and FUN again, (borrowing from The Donald's brand), effective immediately, we shall now be governed by the RELAXED RULES OF GOLF.
Our occasional Sunday Golf with CHANG L have been a lot of fun because unknowingly, CHANG has always imposed his rules for us when we play at LOOMIS or SEMIAHMOO. I am not sure if he is aware that "his rules" have been promoted by the Golf Channel since August, 2014. Just what are those CHANG's rules? Here they are:
These "simplified rules" are guaranteed to minimize or eliminate arguments on the golf course. They are sure to stop bickering and endless shouting matches. Maybe there would be no more "hard labor in Siberia" sentences for "rules violators".
Since our Golf Games at BBC would no longer be subjected to "playing taxes" ($10), these rules shall now be in effect.
NOTE OF CAUTION - We are still serious about improving our game and in keeping official scores for handicap purposes. Be aware that we still would oblige everyone to submit (record) their scores on the Golf Canada handicap database. Be aware that your "official handicap" is valid for tournament play here and anywhere in the world. Be aware that any "scoring benefit" from these relaxed rules could lower your handicap index accordingly. As long as you accept these consequences and are quite willing to live with them - to have golfing fun - then CHEERS! Let's do it!
TOURNAMENT PLAY - On occasion when we decide to hold a "serious tournament", we could suspend our RELAXED rules and impose the YOOL rules. YOOL stands for "You're Out Of Luck".
Basically, in TOURNAMENT PLAY, we revert back to the official rules of golf, which means that if your ball is in a divot, YOOL! If your drive is OB, YOOL. If you are left with a 6 inch putt, YOOL: you have to putt it in.
Don't worry, we won't have too many YOOL rules in effect during the year!
LET'S BRING BACK FUN in GOLF!
